Welcome to the home page of Central Pathways, LLC!
Central Pathways is an
audiology private
practice that specializes in
evaluating Central Auditory Processing (CAP) and treating
Central Auditory Processing Disorders, or CAPD.
Central Auditory Processing (CAP) is also referred to as Auditory Processing (AP).
A simple definition of auditory processing is "what you do with what you hear", or how a person takes in and uses
auditory stimuli. A more in-depth definition can be found in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's
(ASHA) Task Force on Central Auditory Processing Consensus Development document
(www.asha.org). An intact auditory system is necessary for hearing and accurately processing speech. This, of
course, is crucial for infants developing speech and language, and for school-aged children as they continue to learn.
The majority of a child's classroom instruction and interaction is auditory in nature. A deficit in
auditory
processing can cause children to misunderstand what was said, become confused, or be unable to follow instruction in
the presence of noise. As a result, learning problems and educational difficulties may arise.
On this site, you'll find information about Central Pathways, as well as helpful resources related to CAPD.
